Clark: Bruce Bruce what is this 9 yr old Dick: :D Clark: Bruce Bruce, haggard, injecting 5 hour energy straight into his arm: baby bird Clark: you can’t let a child fight crime Bruce, near tears: you want to try and stop him? please for the love of God Clark try please Dick: I’m gonna do murder! I genuinely believe Kermit the Frog is underrated as an INCREDIBLY well-written character. Just a fairly chill and easygoing person who has unfortunately elected to live in his own personal hell every single day. A frog who wakes up each morning next to a pot of boiling water, sighs, and jumps in with a banjo because all the stress is worth it when he gets to perform and make people happy. Truly the best of Hollywood
Being a sex-positive personally-sex-repulsed ace is weird cuz like reading about sex? Awesome. Writing about sex? Not much more intolerable than writing about anything else. Sex is good. Sex is normal. Sex is only as important as you let/want it to be. Kinks are natural expressions of sexuality. Sexual purity is a scam. Bodies are nothing to be ashamed of. Sex work is no more exploitative than any other kind of labor. If you touch me I will throw up on you.
Yes we need more chaste twee baby gay romances like heartstopper and yes we also need more shows where men fuck raw to express their love for one another like Élite and yes we need more toxic gays having hate sex like Interview with the Vampire and yes we need more incidental gay characters like the dads in cartoons like Owl House.
It’s not a competition! It’s a hoard and I’m like a gay little Smaug.
the normalization of porn in mainstream media is a weird take to have
Normalization of gay desire and yes, even gay sex, is paramount to gay liberation actually.
Was Buffy the Vampire Slayer normalizing porn in mainstream media when Spike and Buffy literally fucked a house down on top of themselves?
Was Grey’s Anatomy normalizing porn in mainstream media when Meredith and Derek had sex in a bar the night they met, and Derek woke up on her living room floor sans pants?
The OP did not say “we need more shows where men fuck raw to express their love for one another and also I get to see dick and balls and it should be on the Disney Channel.” If you’re cool with het couples having network-TV-level exposed sex, then why are gay couples doing the same “normalizing porn”?
And if you want to see dick and balls, or bush and labia, that’s cool too. But no one is saying that should be on CBS at eight.
im sick of being advertized to 24/7, just leave me tf ALONE
the cost of living and gas prices, plus a 9-5 shift with minimum pay and no saved income (cuz which poor person with no connections will have that) is the reason im not BUYING YOUR SHIT. IM BROKE, I HAVE NADA, BOTHER RICH PPL NOT ME
I just looked these up. 1979 is the Chapter Title font, I think, and Euristile (Eurostile?) is used for where it’s like “THE CONCEPT K.A. Applegate” on the cover.
I think the text itself is usually in Arial.
The Title Font looks very similar to 1979 but there are differences in both the character widths and the embellishments on the letters, e.g. the Title includes the middle bar of the capital R pushing through the vertical stroke, but the font 1979 doesn’t include that feature.
Compare:
So yeah. 1979 is used in the books, and it’s the clear inspiration for the title font, but it’s *not* the title font. Numerous fans have come up with a font based on the book titles that does a better job of recreating them. My favorite is called Escafil.
Waaaaaiiiitt. Euristile is Eurostile? That’s the font I use for 100% of my slides, and I picked it for no other reason than “this looks nice to me.”
Ooh! Ooh! I got this. First post got buried, trying this again.
Logo, Chapter Initials: Ramiz, by Greg Samata. Same guy and same font family as 1979. It’s been artificially condensed, which is why the horizontal lines are thicker in the logo.
Titles and headers: Eurostile Bold Extended, Aldo Novarese. Normal Eurostile is too square. (Fun fact, it’s actually supposedly pronounced “Euro-STEE-lay.” Those wacky Italians.)
Body is NOT Arial narrow! That would be too easy.
They look so similar, but look at the upper and lowercase G, the Q, the leg of the uppercase R and the 7, the subtle thrust of the shoulders, the C curve in the bowl of the lowercase a, and the angle of the S.
It’s News Gothic, by Morris Fuller Benton.
And the others:
The Andalite Chronicles font - Citizen Light, Zuzana Licko.
The Hork Bajir Chronicles font - Totally Gothic, Zuzana Licko again.
Visser - Flexure, Stephen Farrell. I can’t tell who distressed this font, but you can probably make it yourself - this is clearly the base, though, and was used on a lot of merchandise.
Ellimist Chronicles font - Tema Cantante, Eric Lin
Various bits of Merchandise - Arbitrary, Barry Deck
And this one, that’s Gill Sans on the left, by Eric Gill (YSh), and Template Gothic, the ninetiesiest font of all, by Barry Deck for the list.
But for the life of me, I can’t figure out what that distressed Gothic “Know Your Threat” typeface is. I welcome anyone who has a better idea.
City, Triplex, Platelet and Lunatix are some other 1990s typefaces that may have the vibe you want. Happy hunting!
If I was on my Windows 98 computer at work 23 years ago I could tell you the know your threat font in about 20 seconds but that font set has been out of my life for a couple decades. It was popular for X-files stuff.
Update! Thanks to @kindigo we have the Know Your Threat font.
A shame it’s not an ad for book 27, because it’s literally called Crackhouse.
Go now in peace, to love and serve the type.
To add to this, here is the Font page from the Animorphs Style Guide:
This list is obviously incomplete, but it includes the info that both Eurostile Extended Two Regular Bold and Eurostile Regular Bold were used. Also, Template Gothic as mentioned above. The other fonts on this page are Reactor FB (Derelict and Degrading), Graham - Regular Bold, Escalido - Streak Gothic, Franquadrat - Medium, Acid - Sans, and Acid-Serif.
One more update! The hardcover books weren’t in News Gothic - my copy of Visser uses Hans Eduard Meier’s “Syntax” for the body text…
…and Base 12 Serif by… Dun dun dun… Zuzana Licko! Again!
Someone give her the Animorphs Font Award for her services, by this point.
The big discourse on twitter right now is that writers going on strike or cancelling their own series are breaking an invisible “contract” they made with their fans and all creators owe their fans a satisfying conclusion to their stories.
Actually all fans owe all creators for entertaining them and if a creator says “I don’t want to perform this labor anymore,” then regardless of the cliffhanger that leaves you with, your only response should be “take care! Thank you for all your hard work!!!” :)
I’m probably swinging at a hornets’ nest with this one but I’m quite tired of the number of posts I’ve seen that are like “have you considered that using tone indicators is ableist because neurodivergent people are all too stupid and dumb to learn acronyms? I have the enlightened progressive take btw”
Same blogger freely uses “btw”, “wth”, “fr” and would clutch all the pearls in their drawer if someone called those acronyms ableist.
Look I’m also in my mid-20s and also don’t know what half the tone indicators mean because I’m not Hip with the Youth. Can we all just accept that instead of making a Principal Skinner No It’s The Kids Who Are Wrong post about it every two weeks? Do we not remember the mid 2000s when everyone in our parents’ generation was frothingly angry with us for texting “lol ttyl”? It’s okay if a 17-year-old needs to teach us what “/nm” means. It’ll be okay.
My grandfather used to grow watermelons, among other things, and he told me about most of this, especially the orange spot. Those are the absolute best!
i have been given nothing but shiny elongated watermelons with small webbings and white spots. and they make me wanna kill myself
My grandfather used to tell me the best watermelons are the ones you steal from the back of a truck so I guess we all learned some watermelon knowledge from our grandfathers
